With the accessibility of filmmaking today, the barriers to producing video have never been lower and our lives are flooded with moving images. But the little dancing pixels on our screens, for the most part, just wash over us - here today, forgotten tomorrow. We set out to make video that swims against the current, not grist for the algorithm mill, but films we care about, that set your brand and story apart and provide lasting value.

Cannibal Pictures is the studio of producer-director James Alex Thomson. James has worked internationally on television and film productions for Apple TV+ and Netflix, and served as creative assistant to actor and producer Rami Malek - collaborating closely on character creation, script development, edit notes and project selection.

In 2024, James left his position with Rami to bring that experience and those relationships to bear on something new: making cinematic, imaginative and creative films for ambitious brands and beautiful people.

how we work.

Cannibal Pictures is a full service production company, from first ideas to final delivery we take care of everything in-house. No two projects are ever the same and our emphasis is on listening and collaboration so we can tell the best possible story in the best possible way. That said, here's how a typical project plays out.

first chat

first exploratory call (or coffee) where we understand your needs, vision, audience and what you want to communicate. We discuss the scope of the project, its intended destination - socials, broadcast, client - and what success looks like.

creative development

once we know your story, we develop our approach. This is where we develop the concept, write the treatment, visual style, mood board, script and source any talent and locations. We present our ideas, refine them in collaboration and make sure we're aligned before we begin the shoot.

shoot

we assemble the right crew for the project from our network of film and television freelancers and handle all on-set logistics, directing the day, talent, and participants so everyone feels seen, safe and comfortable.

post-production

we edit, colour grade and handle sound design so the footage is shaped into a final film that fullfills the creative vision. This is also when we prepare any social media cut downs and behind the scenes content, so you get a much value as possible from a single shoot.

feedback & review

we share our edit, chat about the direction and make any revisions and refinements. The whole project is a collaboration and we understand that no one knows your brand better than you do and we welcome any input that can present you in the best way possible.

delivery

once the film is locked we deliver your film in multiple formats ready for social, web, big-screen presentations, or wherever it's going. We also turn over any additional content such as behind the scenes, stills, and social media cut downs, leaving you with a full package of assets.
